What is David's Bridal's alterations policy?

If our standard alterations on a garment purchased from David’s Bridal do not result in the fit you agreed upon at time of fitting, we will do another round of alterations at no charge to you. If our alterations damage a garment purchased from David’s Bridal, we will fix the damage or replace the garment at no charge to you. Because of the variability in construction, materials, and quality of garments purchased from third parties, we cannot extend this alterations policy to cover alterations on garments that were not purchased at David’s Bridal.

How long do alterations take?

The best way to determine how long alterations will take for your garment is to schedule an appointment with our alterations artisans. If you found your dream dress at David’s Bridal, we recommend making an appointment for your first fitting at the time of purchase.

For wedding dresses, an alterations artisan will work with you at your initial appointment to create a specific timeline based on your event date. Please allow 4 weeks between the first and final fittings. If you need your alterations before 4 weeks, please contact your local store.

For bridesmaid dresses, social occasion dresses, and all other garments, we can provide alterations within 2 weeks; however, a rush fee may apply. Contact your local store  for availability.

What happens at the first fitting?

First fittings take about an hour for wedding dresses and half an hour for bridesmaid or formal dresses. Most other garments will take a half hour or less. You'll try on your garment, and a specialist will pin it to show you the best alterations for an ideal fit. For wedding dresses with a train, you'll see bustle options.

What should I bring to my fittings?

To ensure the perfect fit, bring the bra, slip, shapewear, and shoes you plan to wear with your dress or garment. If you don’t have your undergarments yet, David’s Bridal offers foundation pieces and lingerie that pairs with every type of dress.

Who should I bring to my fitting?

For brides with a gown featuring a long train, invite your maid of honor (or mom or trusted friend) to the final fitting so she can learn how to bustle your gown for the big day.

How much will alterations cost?

Our goal is to perfect the fit of your garment while staying within your budget. Pricing varies based on the complexity of the alterations, so we'll need to see you in the garment before we can provide a price quote. An alterations specialist will work closely with you to discuss fit enhancements and personalization options. For wedding dress shoppers, remember to budget the cost of alterations and bustling when choosing a gown. For example, you might get a great deal on a clearance style that is not the correct size, but complex alterations could cost the amount you saved.

Payment is due at the time of your first fitting. Additional charges apply to rush orders needed within 3 weeks or less.
